10 Billion Billionaires Predicts Three Day Work Week …

I was sitting opposite a young person who was in the final year of her university degree and looking forward to the start of her career. She had secured a full time ‘permanent’ position with the education department.

10billion:  “Do you believe that people will always expect full employment?”

Almost graduated: “What do you mean?”

10billion: “You know what technology is right? It’s our ability to do more with less (less effort, time, money, resources) or another way to say it is to do a better job quicker and easier.”

Almost graduated: “Right, I understand.”

10billion:  “Technology is replacing peoples jobs, and creating new opportunities, but because the context is doing more with less it seems ridiculous to expect full employment and at the same time be encouraging technology, doesn’t it?”

Almost graduated:  “I never thought about it.”

“Thinking is one of the most difficult tasks there is. That’s why so few participate in it.” Henry Ford

10billion:  ” Twelve yeas ago I was driving my daughter to school; she’s now about your age, and I told her that I expect by the time she enters the work force it will be normal to be working only three or four days a week, because of technology. Of course that hasn’t happened yet, and she works probably more hours because she has also a second job to try to pay off the house loan and personal loans etc.”

Silence as our meals had been delivered and people were eating.

10billion:  “So how would you feel only working say three days a week?”

Almost graduated:  “No. I don’t think I could do that. It doesn’t seem right. What would I have to do on the other four days?”

10billion:  “What could you do? What do you love to do?

Almost graduated:  “I’d love to travel. I would go to Europe and to South America and Africa and the Middle East and just travel.”

10billion:  “OK, and after say five years what would you do then?”

Almost graduated:  “Hhmmmm … I’d like to help children who have learning difficulties, not just here in Australia but wherever around the world. There’s so much that needs to be done. If I was free to do it I would be helping in lots of areas. I’d never thought much about it, I just saw that I would become a teacher and this is the end of four years of study. That’s a lot of study.”

“People should think things out fresh and not just accept conventional terms and the conventional way of doing things.” R Buckminster Fuller

10billion:  “I know how you feel. My profession was as a civil engineer and my main focus was that I got paid every two weeks, and I lived a great lifestyle. I partied, played lots of sport … drove a new sports car and lived in a new apartment. Life was treating me very well. But at the same time I never thought much about what I was doing.”

10billion:  “There’s been lot’s of learning experiences since that time and today I am creating a new paradigm … one of abundance for everyone, and it’s called Your Healthy Planet.com. It’s a member’s club and ethical marketplace that has a structure in it designed to encourage co-operation and to reward people who follow their passion and make the world a better place for everyone. It’s an exciting game to play.”

Almost graduated:  “Thank you for sharing this. I am going to check out Your Healthy Planet and also I’m going to spend some time looking at what really is important to me and how I can make an even bigger difference beyond my teaching. ”

10billion:  “Thanks … and we’ll see you around. Good luck.”

Just two days later another conversation, this time with a senior teacher who was frustrated with the chopping and changing of teachers due to illness, additional duties and time away on courses etc.

I said “Imagine that each grade had two teachers, each working a three day week … and that way the children would have stability having either teacher A or B and in addition they could be team teaching on one day a week, or taking some valuable time out to prepare or to reward themselves.”

The future is no longer based on scarcity. The future is full of abundance, full of opportunity and excitement. It is a wonderful time to be alive.

About Alex Sprunt

Twenty years ago I participated in a game that changed my life. Called "The Barnyard Game" it threw groups of intelligent people into fierce competition for the chance to 'access the Ocean of Abundance' and the "Ocean only wants to OUTFLOW ... so come with a spoon, a cup, bucket or pipe it in, the Ocean doesn't care". The game was noisy, loud, had physical barriers and it was played hard. Then all of a sudden a realisation was made that swept through the game in an instant. "There is no need to compete ... the Ocean is abundant and wants everyone to enjoy her abundance." For forty years or more we have been living at a time when everyone on earth could be living the lifestyle of billionaires. Technology and a cooperation revolution makes this available and the way forward is to elevate everyone up above the level of the "1%" rather than try and pull the 1% down to a low level. We are all living in exciting times ...
