Did you know that we have had a change of CONTEXT for our lives on Earth, and we can now start distributing the wealth?
In fact the wealth is abundant!
Context is the ‘thing’ that shapes our environment, and our environment is what shapes our behavior.
An automotive factory for instance has a certain context that allows it to produce cars. It can’t produce boats or airplanes unless we change the layout and the type of machines that make up the factory, that makes up the context.
Sometime around 50 years ago the context of life on Earth changed from “there’s not enough for everyone, or there’s scarcity” to a context of “plenty for everyone, a context of abundance”.
This happened when technology reached a point where it allowed us to do so much more with so little, and for the first time in our human history we could now provide a high standard of living for everyone on Earth. According to futurist Buckminster Fuller technology will continue doing “more with less and more with less and less” until we can do everything with nothing.
This sounds ‘far fetched’, the concept of doing everything with nothing is still way out there somewhere in the future; however in his book ‘Abundance’ author Peter H Diamandis gives many many examples of ephemeralization (doing more with less) and exponential growth industries.
But we still have a problem.
The problem is that 99.999% of the world’s population do not know this has happened, even though 1500 scientists proved it was now true in the 1970’s.
I feel it’s very similar to when Christopher Columbus (c1492) and Magellan (c1519) discovered that they could sail east continuously, and return to where they had started rather than “dropping off the edge” of a flat earth. They now knew that the world was a sphere and not a flat plane.
The fact remained however that most people still believed the world was flat. Even today in the 21st Century we still commonly use “flat world” language like –> Did you see the Sunrise, or they went to the four corners of the World, and up and down rather than in and out.
We are now in a transition period, a period of chaos as we move from an old paradigm of “managing scarce resources” (economics) to “distributing wealth” which is growing exponentially.
And wealth is the number of forward days you can survive at your current standard of living without actively working.
We are starting to see some adhoc examples of this new “distribution of wealth”, and it really challenges our current thinking.
To my knowledge we haven’t got a word to describe it … a word to describe the “necessary distribution of wealth, or life support, given its abundance”. Philanthropy and altruism have some relationship but are not within the context of abundance.
On occasion we have a member (or members) of very wealthy families announce they have made a large donation or set up a foundation to support various causes. These announcements are quite rightly greeted with enormous gratitude, and even relief because government funding is often being cut in these same areas.
The “distribution of wealth” will require very different rules and regulations from those that currently exist to support the economy, and its “management of scarce resources”.
In a recent interview Elon Musk talks to 30 US Governors about the future and discusses the need to “kill” old regulations and laws that are no longer relevant, and provide incentives to accelerate our transition into the sustainable future we want.
Speaking of no longer relevant, I believe that the word “economy” is no longer relevant as we now have an increasing abundance of wealth (the product of knowledge and resources), and the use of the word should now be terminated … did you hear that ‘Arnie’, or more appropriately Elon?
Let’s terminate it and step into and abundant future.
